Baxter gets a bath

When it was bathtime at our old house, Bax got his bath in our bathtub. But here, our house has a sink in the garage. Baxter now has his own bathtub (because what else are we going to use a sink in the garage for?)

Did I mention he pretty much *hates* bath time?

Missing: One Camera Cord

I can't find Erik's camera cord anywhere. I've looked high, I've looked low. I found mine in the process though, so at least you can have SOME pictures!

Here's our house:

And here's Ruby (my new car!):

Here is Baxters throne.

And this is the flower that grows on the bushes outside our house, added for good measure.

The Spice Fairy paid us a visit!

Last week sometime I was on the phone with my mother-in-law and we were talking about the fact that my spices were old so I tossed most of them when we left OK and when we got here I forgot to buy more (and I continue to forget because I'm only reminded when I reach for something in the cabinet that isn't there!) And she suggested I check out this website that Andrea (Erik's sister) gets her spices from. And of course, I forgot to do that too.

....days pass...

So I went out shopping with the girls today (because that's what unemployed people do, right?) and when I came home there was a Penzeys (thats the spice company) box on my door step with an unsigned note that says "Heard you needed some help stocking your spice cabinet, these should help you out" and in this box is like (and I'm not exaggerating!) 35 different types of spices! I'm so stoked! Granted, my cooking skills are moderate at best, but this makes me want to get into the kitchen and whip up a feast!

I'm not sure who the Spice Fairy is, but I'll let you know when I find out. I have some ideas...

So anyway, as you can see, we made it to Hawaii in one piece - Baxter too. We're missing a few things, but nothing with sentimental value, so that's a plus. The moms have both asked for pics of the place, so I'll post a few when the house looks decent enough to have pictures taken of it and I think I'll send out an email with our new address and a link to this blog to keep everyone updated while we gear up for the next deployment *sigh*. Maybe this way I'll stick to my resolution of being a more frequent blogger!

Until next time!

Here is why I'm retarded (today's example):
As I was telling Erik about our "spicy" surprise (hah!) I looked at the return label and said "This gift sent to you by: Andrea J********"... and I paused. How did I miss that before? Anyway, thanks Andrea! SUCH a thoughtful gift!

Wow.

I am such a bad blogger that I went to leave a comment on someone elses blog and I had to work to figure out my password and user name! I promise once this moving debacle is behind us I'll do better...

So the movers came last week to pick up our 950lb "forward baggage". We planned to send ahead the things we thought we'd need (half our kitchen stuff, Aerobed, guest room TV, etc) and some furntiure. We were conservative in our collection of "everyday" things so we'd have pounds left in our shipment for the furniture. Guess what - can't send furniture. Of course no one bothered to share that with us until the movers got here and by then it was too late to collect more "stuff" to send ahead (because why not use up all 950 pounds?). My question to you is this: Who has so much "stuff" that they could fill up a 950 pound shipment WITHOUT furniture? Not us, that's for sure.

Another year, another attempt at regular blogging...

I'm a procrastinator. It's a wonder I ever got through college this way.

I'm supposed to be tidying up. Our landlords are getting out of the "biz", so our house will be on the market in the future. Appreciating our landlords for saving us from 6 months in the Lawton ghetto, I'd like to help them sell the place by not having Erik's crap everywhere when the house gets shown. However, that's become a task since nothing I do or say can rouse him into action. I've given up - if 4 years at a military university didn't do it, I certainly can't. Let it be known though: I'll happily pick up his shoes off the floor dozens of times daily if it means he's here to leave them there...

We're going to North Dakota this weekend to see Erik's grandparents and the rest of his ND fam that I've never met. Should be fun. But I want to have the house clean before we go because a) I hate coming home to a dirty house and b) It might get shown while we're gone.

Enough about cleaning - what am I? June Cleaver?

The plans for the big move to Hawaii are coming along. As far as they can come without the Army telling us when we have to be there... We should know on Thursday though, and on that day I'll go into full overwhelmed mode.

It's not like a regular move where you can pack your own valuables without the movers knowing about them, or move them yourself so you know nothing bad happens. Noooo, this time I have to put everything I own on a ship and hope it doesn't end up bubbling up from the bottom of the Pacific. I'm sure I'm being dramatic but ... it's what I do.

House hunting is going well. Before we knew we'd be going to Hawaii we had hoped to buy at our next duty station. HOWEVER, you can't even look at a decent house without paying half a million dollars, so we're going to be renters for the next 3-7 years. Things are looking up though, ahrn (thanks Jackie) has been most helpful.

So I'm going to try to be more regular at this, and I'm sure when we're less busy and prepping for the next deployment (it's coming quicker than I'd like...) you'll be hearing more from me.

Until next time!
